Q

A

Games run for 40minutes timeslots. In some cases, games may only run for 30 minutes timeslots to cater for more time slots enabling more children to play the sport. This is not determined until after registration and team numbers are confirmed for each venue.

Q

Can I make sure my child is placed in the same team as a friend ?

A

We have no problem with making sure friends are placed together into the same team as long as they are eligible to play in the same division. If however, your child’s friend has played for a few years and is already in a set team, then you would need to speak to the Team Delegate of that team to see if there is room for your child to play as we can not force the delegate to accept extra registrations.

Q

Will my child need to be graded ?

A

Dragontag does not grade players, as it is a recreational sport designed for children to make up teams so that they can play with their friends. We have teams made up from school class friends, winter sport teams (Netball, Rugby league, Rugby Union, Soccer etc) and from individuals signing up

Q

Does my child need to attend training each week ?

A

No training days are scheduled for Oztag players. It is up to individual teams to arrange their own training days if they choose to do so. The majority of teams, do not train at all.

Q

Can I make sure my child is placed with his/her sibling ?

A

If you register a full team then yes you can have younger players in your team .However they cannot be placed into a team if they are not the appropriate age unless the team you are joining accepts a younger player.

Q

Which division should my child play in ?

Q

What time are the games ?

A

It will depend on how many teams are in the competition as to what time your childs games are each week . Divisions do not have set times as we receive Time Requests which may see  teams playing early one week and later the following week . Time slots commence from 4.15pm

Q

What does my child need to wear to play?

A

Every child needs to have Official Oztag Shorts to play (cost $30.00) which are available at registration and at Venue. All players must wear same coloured numbered shirts or singlets (team delegate to advise). No metal or screw in stud type shoes allowed. Moulded Touch football or soccer boots recommended, sandshoes are allowed but not recommended due to poor grip.

Q

Is there a limit on the number of Representative Players per team ?

A

We understand that Oztag is a recreational sport and many teams are formed  with friends. Dragontag introduced a Representative limit after we found that teams were being formed after meeting new friends at Representative Carnivals. The limit was put in place as we found that some of the strongest players from each team were being placed into one team making it unenjoyable at local level all round
We do not break up teams that entered as a team prior to becoming rep players.
We do not have a Black and White rule but do monitor all teams that enter and may impose hanidcaps if need be. Currently we work on the "NO MORE THEN 4 REPS" per team rule
For eg: A team that currently has 4 rep players may not be able to add further Rep players to their team
We monitor teams and  ask the reasons as to why players may have moved across from their usual team

Q

Who and what is a Delagate ?

A

They are our Team Contact . Delegates are not coaches. They may help the team by substituting players during the game & usually at the beginning organise shirt colour and team shirts for them. Some teams put too much pressure on the delegate believing they are there to coach the team. Remember they have kindly put their hand up and given up some time to be our point of contact to make life a little easier for the players/parents .Please offer them assistance.   More information can be found under "Team Delegates" tab

Q

Are parents allowed on the field to help the children who have not played before ?

A

Yes, we allow one parent help out on the field for the first 4 weeks. However coaches are to be mindful to encourage players to learn the game and not help play the game.
I have signed my child up to play Oztag but don't know what team he/she has been placed into?
Individual players signing up will be placed into teams and you can find out what your team is by looking on the website under 'Players Registered' tab as all players will be listed into teams

Q

Does Dragontag provide Coaches ?

A

Being a recreational sport, we do not supply coaches (with the exception of representative teams). We ask for parents to help by being a delegate of the team and in many cases, the delegates of teams are Mums.

Q

I looked up my Teams Contact Details and there is no Team Contact. What Now?

A

If there is no team contact then don't worry. Many individuals sign up and we either place them into established teams or create a new team. All you then need to do is look up "Venue- Game Times"- venue subpages. Make sure you are at the fields at least 15 minutes prior to your game to familiarise yourself with the Dragontag Competition & find the rest of your team which will be allocated to a field ready for your game.
Once the parents and team get together for the first time, someone usually puts their hand up to be the main contact for the team. You will then be able to organise team shirts etc. amongst each other. If no-one is willing to be the team contact it can cause confusion amongst the parents so it is important that someone takes on this role.

Q

Who do I ring to advise that my child can’t make a game ?

A

You must ring and advise your team contact. Do not contact Dragontag as we will not be able to be pass on the information due to the  amount of calls and other responsibilities on the night.

Q

Can my son or daughter play with their siblings or friends in a higher division?

A

Yes we allow players to play in a higher age group, though only in their registered team. Your team  will need to be a full registered team to be eligible to have younger players play in a higher division .Individual players not registering with their team will not be placed in a higher Division ..

Q

My friends child's team has a coach and they train each week. How is that possible if Oztag do not supply coaches?

A

We have a number of children that may play together in a Winter Sport and wish to stick together in the off season by playing Oztag. You may find that some teams have their Winter Sports Coach staying with them in the off season. Many Junior Rugby league and Rugby Union  coaches like to use Oztag as a training tool and it’s a good way to keep their team together.
